Eastern Air command (EAC) of Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday carried out a 2-day fighter aircraft operation from civil air fields of Guwahati, Kolkata and Andal.
The aim was to use the civil airport under it’s Air Operations Routine (AOR) in case of any eventuality, validate the fighter operations procedure, familiarise the crew and pilots about the Air Field and coordinate with civil agencies for these operations, a defence official said.
In view of this, SU-30s operated from Kolkata and Guwahati and Hawk jets from Andal from May 1-2, in which both day and night operations were carried out.
EAC Senior Air Staff Officer Air Marshal Sandeep Singh expressed satisfaction and conveyed that exercise achieved all it’s aim and “such training gives us the flexibility to shift operating base if the need arises.”
He further emphasised the significance of operating from Kolkata as it is vital for maritime operational significance.
