President confers Ex 15 Corps GOC Lt Gen Bhat with UYSM

President Ramnath Kovind on Tuesday awarded former 15 Corps General Officer Commander Lt Gen AK Bhatt with Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) for his exceptional service to the nation. Besides, 17 others armed force personnel were conferred with Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra. Kirti Chakra was awarded to two personnel (Posthumously) while remaining were settled with Shaurya Chakra.  Lt Gen Bhat moved to Army Headquarters last month as Military Secretary. During his over one year stint at 15 Corps which is also called Chinar Corps, a total of 314 terrorists were neutralised in the valley. It is the highest number in last 11 years, an Indian Army official said. This year Republic Day, a total of 121 Gallantry and distinguished awards were conferred to the armed forces personnel. Amongst 91 were from Chinar Corps only.
