Indian Coast Guard fishes out 15 kg smuggled gold from sea

Chennai: In a joint anti-smuggling operations by Indian Coast Guard, Mandapam and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended one fishing vallam alongwith 02 personnel on Tuesday.

The crew were interrogated by ICG and subsequently Diving teams ex Coast Guard Hovercraft H-197 and Interceptor Craft IC-114 undertook diving operations at sea on March 4 in the Gulf of Mannar and recovered one cloth package containing 05 black packs, an official said.

These packets contained approx 15 kgs Gold worth approx Rs 6.3 Crore as per market rates.  

The apprehended Gold has been handed over to DRI officials.
