Jaishankar in Bhutan for strong bilateral relations

Thimpu: In order take bilateral relations between both the countries to a new height, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Bhutan on Friday on his maiden overseas visit since his appointment in the new position.

“Hello Bhutan! EAM Dr S Jaishankar arrives in Bhutan to a warm welcome by Foreign Minister of Bhutan Dr Tandi Dorji. This is EAM’s first visit as Minister and reflects the importance India attaches to its northern neighbour,” MEA spokesman Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

In his missive in the micro blogging site, Dr Jaishankar wrote, “Great to be back in Bhutan. Touched by the warm and sunny welcome. Thank you Foreign Minister Bhutan Tandi Dorji”.

During the two-day visit, External Affairs Minister is expected to have audience with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and call on Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan.

In 2014 after taking over, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first overseas visit was to Himalayan neighbour Bhutan.
