Guwahati: In a series of successful operations targeting illegal smuggling activities, the Assam Rifles achieved significant breakthroughs in Mizoram. These operations led to the recovery of substantial amounts of cash in both Indian and Burmese currency and explosives, as well as the arrest of seven individuals.

Among those detained were five Myanmar nationals. The incidents occurred in Mizoram’s Bungtlang area within the Lawngtlai district and at a tea garden in Ngopa.

Currency seizure

Based on specific intelligence regarding the transportation of large sums of money in Bungtlang, the Assam Rifles swiftly launched two separate operations over the weekend. During these operations, the teams seized Burmese currency amounting to 124,876,000 kyat and Indian currency valued at ₹1,645,000. Additionally, five Burmese nationals were apprehended. The authorities have handed over both the individuals and the recovered contraband to the Bungtlang Police for further legal action.

Explosives intercepted

Responding to credible information about the movement of explosives and related materials near the Tea Garden Junction in Ngopa, the Assam Rifles established a mobile vehicle check post, on Monday. Their efforts resulted in the seizure of 10 units of plastic explosives, 10 detonators, 12 fuses, 3 cordex (explosive-detonating cord/fuse), and 1 gram of cordex powder (explosive powder applied to cordex). Furthermore, two motorbikes transporting the explosives were confiscated.
