Army conducts “Rajouri Marathon” for peace and harmony in J&K

Aiming to promote peace and harmony in the society, the Indian Army on Sunday conducted “Rajouri Marathon”, focussing towards the populace of Rajouri, Naushera and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The event was organised by Ace of Spades Division under the ambit of Operation Sadbhavana. Besides, the Marathon was also conducted to make people aware health consciousness and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan under the motto of ‘Swacch Rajouri, Swasth Rajouri aur Sundar Rajouri’. “The event saw overwhelming response from civilians and defence personnel in diversified age categories as more than 800 people put on their running shoes and set their foot on the running tracks early in the morning,” Indian Army spokesperson Col Aman Anand said. Based on length of the route and age, the participants were segregated into three parts. In the 10-km category the first prize of Rs 10,000 was bagged by Mandeep and Choudhary Iftekar Ahmed in their respective age groups, Col Anand said. Similarly in the 5-km category, the first prize of Rs 5,000 was won by Balwinder Singh while 3 km category was led by Manzoor Hussain and Mukhtiyar Hussain.  However, all the participants were awarded with a T-shirt and  medals. The occasion was graced by scores of dignitaries from military, para military, civil administration, police and political arenas. The ‘Rajouri Marathon’ furthered the sense of mutual trust and belongingness between various strata of the society and was a live example of Unity in Diversity, he said.
