Home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and arrangements put in places for Amarnath yatra, which commenced from June 28. The minister, who arrived here on a two-day visit the valley on Wednesday, will also pay obeisance at Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, provided weather improves near the cave, where visibility is very poor. They said if the weather improves, the minster will pay obeisance at Amarnath cave shrine as helicopter service was suspended on Thursday due to poor visibility. This is Mr Singh’s first visit to the state after BJP pulled out from the coalition with the PDP last month. 'Mr Singh chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar on Thursday morning,' official sources said, adding that overall security situation in the state was reviewed during the meeting. 'Security cover put in place for annual Amarnath Yatra was also reviewed in the meeting,' they said. 'Besides Mr Singh, the meeting was attended by Governor N N Vohra, Advisors to the Governor, B B Vyas, K Vijay Kumar and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid and other senior officials,' they added. He was also informed about the measures taken by the security agencies to meet any militant threat, particularly in south Kashmir. Situation on the Line of Control (LoC) was also discussed during the meeting. The Union Home Minister was informed that security forces guarding the border are on high alert to foil any infiltration bid from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) this summer before the higher reaches are closed due to snowfall. Mr Singh on Wednesday met Governor  N N Vohra and discussed various important issues relating to security management, positive engagement of youths and development projects in the state. A Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Raj Bhawan said that Mr Singh held discussions with Mr Vohra at the Raj Bhavan on various important issues relating to security management, implementation of development programmes and positive engagement of the youth in the State. The Governor briefed the Home Minister about the 60-day-long pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine, which commenced from traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal tracks on June 28.
