Aiming at harbouring cordial relations among both the forces to deal with the border crimes, a-four day long IG level talk between Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) is scheduled to be held from July 22 in Tripura Frontier headquarter in Agartala, BSF officials said on Tuesday. The BGB regional command from Sarail of Chittagong division of Bangladesh will attend the meeting while in Indian part IGs of Tripura, Cachar and Meghalaya sectors will represent BSF to discuss and resolve contentious border issues between the two neighbouring countries. The BSF and BGB have been harbouring a cordial relationship to deal with border crimes, officials stated, adding that the meeting is also expected to focus on stopping smuggling of contraband items including liquor, Phensedyl cough syrup, cannabis and other narcotics into Bangladesh from India. The officials said the improvement of relation with Bangladesh over the past few years had led to BSF and BGB cooperating with each other in curbing border crimes and illegal movements. “We are jointly patrolling the border areas day and night and as a result, trans-border movement of militants has come down sharply. BSF and BGB have formed a joint task force to stop smuggling of goods across the border,” officials added. According to report, BGB had set up 12 Border Outposts in Chittagong Hill Tracts area to bring down the border crimes. In the past, 250 km of border stretches in Chittagong Hill Tracts had remained unprotected for many years. But now BGB patrols CHT area, and there is regular exchange of information between both the border guards.
