Russia: India to participate in Army Games

India will be participating in the International Army Games (IAG) to be held in Russian from July 28 to August 11. First of Indian teams “Tank Biathlon” has reached Moscow and will commence familiarisation on Friday, sources in the defence establishment said. Incidentally, there are six other nations acting as co-host beside Russia while Armenia and Iran will be hosting competitions on their territory for the first time.  China, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kazakastan are the other nations hosting IAG-2018. Interestingly, this year, IAG will bring together 181 teams from 32 countries, a significant jump from last year when 150 teams from 28 countries. However, so far, 162 teams from 27 countries have confirmed their participation, according to Indian Army spokesperson. The participants also include Pakistan, which would be fielding teams for three events ie Suvorov Attack, Clear Sky and Safe Route.  All these events will be held in China. There are unconfirmed reports that Pakistan may take part in Sniper competition too that is being held in Belarus. The Indian armed forces have been participating in the Army Games since its inception. This year, two events (Tank Biathlon and Elbrus Ring) will see full participation from the Indian side.  In addition, 10 Observers will cover 7 events in Russia, China and Kazakhstan. The military games, initiated by Russia in 2014, will be co-organized this year by China, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Iran and Armenia. IAG 2018 will consist of 28 military competitions.
