New Delhi: Leading private sector giant Bharat Forge Limited on Tuesday announced that has forged a long-term contract with Brazil’s Embraer, the world's third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer, to supply high-integrity forged components for landing gear systems across the Brazilian company’s commercial and defence aircraft programmes.
The agreement makes Bharat Forge the first Indian company to supply forged raw materials to Embraer, an entry into a global supply chain that has until now drawn almost entirely from European and American sources.
The scope covers landing gear forgings for Embraer’s range of aircraft, spanning its commercial jets to military platforms such as the C-390 Millennium multi-mission transport aircraft.
Forgings are a critical, long-lead-time component in aircraft manufacturing: they must meet exacting metallurgical and structural standards because a failure in a landing gear system can be catastrophic.
The vice chairman and joint managing director of Bharat Forge, Amit B Kalyani, described the deal as a landmark.

“The fact that BFL is the first Indian supplier of forged components for Embraer is a proud moment and a testament to the capabilities we have built in the aerospace business,” he said. “These contracts will enable us to create scale for critical structural components, complementing the scale built in the aero-engine components space.”
Embraer said the agreement “reflects Embraer’s commitment to advancing the aerospace ecosystem in India and creating long-term value across the entire supply chain.”
Embraer's widening India play
The Bharat Forge contract is the latest commercial step in an accelerating Indian strategy for Embraer.
At Wings India 2026 in Hyderabad, the company said the Indian aviation market is expected to require at least 500 aircraft in the 80-to-146-seat segment over the next 20 years.
On the defence side, Embraer and the Mahindra Group signed a strategic partnership in October 2025 to produce the C-390 Millennium in India, aimed at supporting the Indian Air Force's medium transport aircraft programme.
In February 2026, they outlined plans to establish maintenance, repair and overhaul capability for the C-390 in India, a bid to demonstrate industrial depth and satisfy the government's Make in India requirements. The C-390 faces competition from Lockheed Martin's C-130J Super Hercules, offered with Tata Advanced Systems.
Embraer has also signed an MoU with Adani Defence & Aerospace to develop an integrated regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India, and another with Hindalco Industries to assess aerospace-grade aluminium manufacturing.
