New Delhi: Kanpur-based MKU Limited on Wednesday said that it has become the first private firm in the country to secure long-term maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) contracts from Indian Air Force headquarters for operational military aircraft.

The agreements cover advanced structural assessments, system repairs, full overhauls and technology protocols to reduce downtime.

Contract Scope

These multi-year deals shift fleet sustainment toward private players, supporting India's self-reliance drive in defence.

MKU's prior MRO work includes airborne platforms like Sukhoi Su-30MKI, Mi-17, AN-32, Mirage 2000 and Rafale, building on its land systems expertise.

The focus remains on boosting aircraft availability amid the air force's fleet of over 2,000 platforms needing sustained support.

MKU's Armed Forces Deals

MKU has deepened ties with Indian armed forces through key procurements.

In October 2025, the Ministry of Defence signed a Rs 659.47 crore contract with MKU and Medbit Technologies for 29,762 Netro NW 3000 night-vision sights for Army SIG 716 rifles.

Earlier that year, MKU supplied night-vision goggles to the Indian Air Force for light combat helicopter (LCH) Prachand and light utility helicopter platforms, enhancing night operations.

The firm also secured deals for ballistic helmets and protective gear, supplying over 100,000 units to the army in past years alongside exports to Asian forces.

Leadership View

Neeraj Gupta, managing director, called the MRO award an honour reflecting trust in indigenous engineering for operational readiness.

No value or aircraft specifics were released for these contracts.
