New Delhi: Private sector firm Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) and the global defence company Paramount jointly unveiled the Simha 4x4, a light armoured multi-purpose vehicle, at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, France. Eurosatory is one of the world’s largest biennial exhibition for land and air-land defence equipment.

The vehicle is described by its makers as a from-the-scratch design: engineered from scratch rather than adapted from an existing platform.

What is the Simha 4x4 light armoured multi-purpose vehicle?

The Simha – the Sanskrit word for lion – is built around Nato-qualified aggregates, meaning its drivetrain, engine and other mechanical sub-systems meet the alliance’s interoperability and certification standards. This should ease entry into European and allied markets that require such compliance. Its modular architecture allows the same base platform to be reconfigured for a range of roles: reconnaissance, border protection, internal security, troop transport, command-and-control, special operations and force protection.

KSSL says the Simha was developed in record time using advanced digital engineering tools and rigorous testing protocols.

The modular design also facilitates future integration of mission systems and emerging technologies, extending its operational relevance over time. Both companies say the vehicle was designed specifically to support local production in partner nations, reducing dependence on foreign supply chains and aligning with the sovereign-manufacturing priorities of governments in Africa, South Asia and beyond.

What the executives said?

Amit Kalyani, vice-chairman and joint managing director of Bharat Forge, pointed to the vehicle’s exportability and its potential to be manufactured in partner countries. “Engineered for rapid industrialisation in partner nations across the world,” he said, the Simha was intended as a demonstration that India’s defence industry can stand alongside the world’s best.

Eric Ichikowitz, senior vice president of Paramount, underlined the market rationale: defence forces globally are seeking adaptable platforms that can perform multiple missions, integrate new technologies and be manufactured within their own borders.

He described the Simha as a vehicle that combines protection, mobility, modularity and affordability, a combination he said was increasingly difficult to find in any single platform.
