New Delhi: In a historic first, four women officers from the Regiment of Artillery will be participating as the contingent commanders in the 75th Republic Day parade in the capital’s Kartavya Path, on January 26. The women officers are Lieutenant Deepti Rana, Lieutenant Priyanka Sevda, Lieutenant Aadya Jha, and Lieutenant Enoni CH. The Regiment of Artillery is a combat-support arm of the Indian Army, and the entry of women officers into this regiment was announced by the Army chief, General Manoj Pande, in January 2023.

Subsequently, five women officers commissioned into Regiment of Artillery, in April 2023, after being commissioned, as India Sentinels had reported.

The women officers will be leading the mechanized columns, which will showcase two weapons systems from the Artillery Regiment: the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system and the Swathi weapon-locating radar system. In addition to this, the women officers will also be leading the drone-jamming system, advanced radio-frequency monitoring system, Sarvatra Bridging System, and the medium-range surface-to-air missile system.

The T-90 “Bhishma” tanks, Nag missile system and BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle will also be part of mechanized columns, along with new-generation vehicles, such as the specialist mobility vehicle, vehicle-mounted Indian mortar system and quick reaction vehicle.
