Ahmedabad: Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a strategic partnership with United States-based Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, a group company of Elbit Systems, to localize the assembly of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) solutions for the Indian Navy.

The collaboration makes Adani Defence the first private sector company in India to offer indigenous sonobuoy solutions, which addresses a critical naval capability that India has traditionally imported from global markets.

Sonobuoys are essential platforms for enhancing undersea domain awareness, allowing naval forces to detect, locate and track submarines and underwater threats. These systems play a crucial role in protecting naval carrier strike groups and maintaining maritime security.

The vice-president of Adani Enterprises, Jeet Adani, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership: “In an increasingly volatile maritime environment, strengthening India’s undersea warfare capabilities is not merely a strategic priority but an imperative for safeguarding sovereignty and national interests.”

He added that the Navy requires integrated, mission-ready intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and anti-submarine warfare capabilities that are indigenously developed and globally competitive.

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, noted the significance of reducing foreign dependence: “For decades, India has been dependent on imports for such critical technology. This partnership to bring world-class sonobuoy technology and integrating it with India’s defence ecosystem is a step towards building self-reliant capabilities in this critical domain.”

The agreement aligns with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and “Make in India” initiatives, which aim to reduce the country’s reliance on defence imports and build domestic capacity in critical security technologies.

Donnelly Bohan, president and CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, expressed pride in bringing proven ASW technologies to India: “This partnership will enable us to localize assemblage, create high-technology skill sets, and deliver reliable ASW solutions tailored to the Navy’s needs.”

Industry analysts view this partnership as part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen its naval capabilities in response to increasing maritime challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. The localization of advanced sonobuoy production is expected to enhance the Navy’s operational readiness while supporting the government’s push for defence indigenization.

Adani Defence & Aerospace has established itself as a significant player in India’s growing defence manufacturing sector, focusing on the design, development, and manufacturing of state-of-the-art defence products while nurturing an ecosystem of startups and MSMEs with export potential.

The partnership represents another milestone in India’s journey toward building a self-reliant defence industrial base capable of meeting the sophisticated requirements of modern warfare.
