New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated President Donald Trump and the people of the United States on the country's 244th Independence Day.

In a tweet, the prime minister said, "I congratulate US President Donald Trump and the people of the USA on the 244th Independence Day of the USA."

As the world's largest democracies, "we cherish freedom and human enterprise that this day celebrates," Mr Modi added.

In his Presidential message to the Nation, US President Donald Trump said, “On this day in 1776, the Second Continental Congress adopted the United States Declaration of Independence in what is now known as Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

In taking this historic step, the Congress proclaimed “these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States.”

Today, “we celebrate our Nation’s independence and the vision of our Founding Fathers revealed to the world on that fateful day, as well as the countless patriots who continue to ensure that the flames of freedom are never extinguished.”

The First Lady and I wish each and every American a happy and blessed Fourth of July and proudly join you in celebrating our great Nation. May God bless the United States of America, he added.
