
New Delhi: The government has appointed Meetu Agarwal, a 2010-batch Indian Revenue Service (IT cadre) officer, as Director in the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence, headquartered in New Delhi.
The appointment, formalised through a DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training order dated May 15, 2026, is for a tenure of five years, subject to standard government service conditions.
The order marks a significant cross-departmental posting, bringing a revenue services background to the defence production establishment.
The Department of Defence Production operates under the Ministry of Defence and is responsible for overseeing the indigenisation of defence equipment, promoting domestic manufacturing, and coordinating with defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) and private industry partners under the broader push for self-reliance in defence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Agarwal, who has served in various capacities within the Income Tax department since joining the IRS (IT) in 2010, brings with her over a decade of experience in fiscal administration, compliance oversight, and policy implementation – competencies considered relevant to the financial and regulatory dimensions of defence procurement and production management.
The five-year term signals a long-term mandate, suggesting the government's intent to bring sustained administrative continuity to the directorial role within the department. The appointment takes effect as per the terms outlined in the DoPT notification.
