Sewa International begins second phase of Bihar flood relief, plans ration kits for 4,000 families

Team India Sentinels 7.45pm, Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Patna: Sewa International has started the second phase of its flood relief campaign in Bihar, aiming to deliver ration kits to more than 4,000 affected families in six districts: Supaul, Purnia, Katihar, Begusarai, Bhagalpur and Khagaria.

The campaign is backed by Kotak Mahindra Bank, and distribution has begun in selected areas, the organization said.

The kits contain essential food supplies. Sewa International said its teams are working with local communities and partners to ensure that the material reaches families who need it most.

Distribution is being planned according to local requirements, it added.

The campaign comes after a severe flood season. Around 44 lakh people were affected across 14 Bihar districts in September, with several rivers flowing above danger levels.

Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Katihar, Khagaria and Purnia were among the districts hit. The Kosi and other rivers also flood low-lying parts of north Bihar – the region where Supaul and Purnia lie.

Minister praises relief work

Bihar minister Pramod Chandravanshi welcomed the effort. He said he had been associated with the organization's activities for a long time and was familiar with its flood work in the state. Such initiatives, he said, give relief to families and strengthen the spirit of service and cooperation in society.

Bank calls it a shared responsibility

Amit Kumar, who represents Kotak Mahindra Bank, called the campaign an important humanitarian initiative.

Getting food to families during a disaster is a collective social responsibility, he said, adding that the bank was pleased to support relief across the six districts.

'Timely help is the priority'

Abhishek Prajapati of Sewa International said the aim was to ensure that disaster-hit families receive help on time. Teams are coordinating at the local level, he said, and the organization is committed to ensuring that no deserving family is left out. He credited supporters, staff and volunteers for the campaign's progress.

Sewa International said its officials, staff, volunteers and local partners are involved in the distribution. The organization said it would continue its disaster relief and rehabilitation work in affected areas.
