India carries out airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan’s Balakot following Pulwama bombing

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force on Tuesday carried out an airstrike on Jaish-e-Muhammed terror camps across the line of control (LoC) and inside Pakistan. The targets included Muzafarabad, Balakot, and Chakoti. The IAF reportedly used Mirage 2000 fighter jets to carry out the airstrikes.

The Pakistan Army spokesman, Major General Asif Ghafoor, also confirmed that that the Indian Air Force (IAF) violated the LoC.

In a tweet, he said, “Facing timely and effective response from Pakistan Air Force released payload in haste while escaping which fell near Balakot.” He also added that no casualties have been reported so far. 

From government side, the minister of state for agriculture, Purushottam Rupala, was the first one to comment after the IAF conducted airstrike. He posted, “BHARAT MATA KI JAI @narendramodi AND BRAVEHEARTS OF OUR ARMY n AIRFORCE JAI HO. [Sic]

Hours after airstrike, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by the prime minister, Narendra Modi, held meeting with the home minister, Rajnath Singh; the defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman; the finance minister, Arun Jaitley; the foreign minister, Sushma Swaraj; the national security advisor, Ajit Doval; along with senior officials.

The sevelopment came after a fidayeen (suicide) attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir on February 14 that killed 40 personnel. The attack was claimed by Pakistan-based militant group, Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).
