Indian, Chinese troops carry out Yoga together at DBO

In what it could be called as gradually growing trust among both the neighbouring nations, the Indian Army and Chinese People Liberation Army on Thursday participated in a joint yoga session at an altitude of 16,942 feet at Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) in Eastern Ladakh. The development came after Chinese troops accepted the Indian Army’s invitation on Wednesday night of carrying out Yoga together, the sources in the Army said. Over 20 Chinese soldiers participated in the session with Indian troops from the 1/9 Gorkha Rifles. The Chinese troops were led by led by Lt-Colonel Li Ming Zu while Indian Army was commanded by Colonel Anil Sharma at the Daulat Beg Oldie-Tien Wein Dien BPM, amid sub-zero temperatures in the morning. “Indian Army had proposed the joint session on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21 at a BPM held last month. The PLA appreciated the offer calling it a genuine peace gesture. They confirmed in writing last night,” Army spokesperson Col Aman Anand said. In addition to the yoga session, in which the two sides displayed great enthusiasm and bonhomie, PLA soldiers also held a martial arts demonstration and there was a mutual exchange of gifts, Col Anand added. During the session, a talk was also given on importance of Yoga for health, well being and inner balance at High Altitude.
