Molecular biology lab at Jodhpur Military Hospital

Jodhpur: A molecular biology laboratory was commissioned at Military Hospital Jodhpur on Wednesday.

The laboratory is authorized by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to conduct both Rapid Antigen test and confirmatory RT PCR tests for diagnosis of Covid-19 disease, Rajasthan-baed defence spokesman Col Sombit Ghosh said.

Military Hospital Jodhpur has achieved the distinction of becoming the first Zonal Military Hospital to have a molecular biological laboratory approved by ICMR.

The laboratory conceptualized under the guidance of Konark Corps commander Lt Gen Anil Puri has the capability to conduct the much sought after confirmatory test for diagnosis of Covid-19 during the prevailing accelerated phase of pandemic.

The laboratory has opened the doors for doing research in the fields of virology, tumor pathology, hematological disorders and other infectious diseases and would be working  in collaboration with other premier institutions like AIIMS Jodhpur, AFMC Pune and NIV Pune.

The laboratory is yet another effort by the Indian Army to serve the nation and will surely go a long way in ensuring the health and safety of it’s countrymen, he added.
