New Delhi: India summoned the Russian chargé d’affaires, Vladimir Ladanov, to the ministry of external affairs on July 21, 2026, to convey the government’s grave concerns over the attack on the commercial vessel MV Golden Leo.

The attack, which took place on Sunday, resulted in the deaths of four Indian nationals, five Syrians and the Ukrainian pilot of the ship.

The ministry conveyed India’s unequivocal condemnation of the incident, emphasizing that such attacks undermine the safety, security, and stability of international maritime commerce.

Ladanov was asked to relay India’s strong concerns to his authorities, with the ministry stressing that the targeting of commercial shipping and the resulting loss of innocent civilian lives are unacceptable and must be avoided.
