Aiming to take the defence ties to a newer height, India handed over a model of Dornier aircraft to the visiting Seychelles president, on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the replica of aircraft at Hyderabad House here.  Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said in a tweet, “Important step towards our commitment to augment Seychelles’ defence assets and capability! PM @narendramodi handed over replica of Dornier Aircraft to President of Seychelles Danny Antoine Rollen Faure.” However, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will hand over the aircraft on Tuesday at Palam Technical Area here. It is the second Dornier maritime reconnaissance aircraft to be handed over to Faure, in line with its record of helping Seychelles monitor its 1.3 million sq km exclusive economic zone (EEZ).  Earlier, India had gifted the Seychelles coast guard a fast track vessel, a Dornier aircraft, and two helicopters. India also announced a US $100 million credit to Seychelles for augmenting their defence capabilities.  “With this credit, Seychelles will be able to buy defence equipment to boost its maritime capacity,” Modi said in his joint media statement with Faure. Both the countries also agreed to work together for developing a naval base at the Assumption Island keeping each other’s concerns in mind.
