Chapra: In a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who served the nation, the Indian Army organised a special felicitation ceremony in Chapra district to honour ex-servicemen, veterans and Veer Naris (widows of soldiers who laid down their lives for the country).
Addressing the gathering, Major General Jitendra Singh said the event was organised to recognise the sacrifices of former soldiers and their families.
“Today, we have gathered in Chapra district to honour our ex-servicemen. We felicitated our Veer Naris, and veterans above the age of 80 received the annual assistance of ₹24,000 provided by the Bihar government,” he stated.
The ceremony also served a larger purpose, strengthening the bond between retired soldiers and the institution they once served.
According to Major General Singh, the initiative aims to keep ex-servicemen connected with the Army, ensure they remain aware of the welfare schemes available to them, and inspire them to continue contributing to society even after hanging up their uniforms.

“They can motivate others and continue serving the nation in different ways,” he added.
Emphasising the Army’s commitment to its veterans, he said the institution stands firmly behind those who dedicated their lives to national defence, as well as their families. He specially lauded the Bihar government’s pioneering step of introducing annual financial assistance for veterans above 80 years of age.
“To my knowledge, Bihar is the first state to introduce this annual financial assistance for ex-servicemen above the age of 80, and it is a commendable initiative,” he noted, adding that the scheme would offer meaningful financial relief to elderly veterans.
The event in Chapra is being seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen ties between the armed forces, veterans and state governments, ensuring that those who served the nation continue to receive recognition, support, and dignity in their later years.
Who is Major General Jitendra Singh?
Major General Jitendra Singh is the 10th general-officer-commanding (GOC) of the Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area. Prior to this appointment, he was the dean of the Army War College, Mhow.
A seasoned Corps of Engineers officer, he brings nearly 30 years of operational, strategic and veterans’ welfare experience, reaffirming his commitment to operational excellence, military-civil cooperation and humanitarian assistance.
