Wing Commander Varthaman flies MiG-21 Bison at IAF parade

Hindon: Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Tuesday participated in fly past at Hindon air base on the occasion of 87th Indian Air Force (IAF) Day celebration.

Wing Commander Varthaman who came into limelight after shooting down the Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet post Balakot air strike on February 27, flew MiG-21 Bison during IAF parade here.

Three Mirage 2000 aircraft and two Su-30MKI fighter aircraft also flew in 'Avenger formation'.

The jets were flown by pilots who participated in Balakot aerial strike in Pakistan.

All the pilots who were the part of air strike participated in Tuesday’s parade.

Post air strike, the Pakistan Air Force attempted to target Indian military installations, the IAF thwarted them.

In a dogfight on February 27, Wing Commander Varthaman shot down Pakistan’s F-16 jet. However, India also lost its MiG-21 Bison.

The strike was carried out days after a terror attack on CRPF convoy in Jammu Kashmir's Pulwama, killing 40 personnel.
