Make-in-India Covid-19 vaccine takes off to Myanmar, Seychelles and Mauritius

New Delhi: India on Friday sent doses  of “Make-in India” Covid vaccine to Myanmar, Seychelles and Mauritius to fight the disease.

It is being sent as part of its “Neighbourhood First” policy and vaccine diplomacy.

“A consignment containing 15 lakh doses of COVISHEILD vaccines has been sent to Yangon. Myanmar is one of the first countries to receive the government’s gift of the vaccines, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India,” an official in the external affairs ministry said on Friday.

Likewise, a total of 50,000 and one lakh doses of Covid vaccines is being sent to Seychelles and Mauritius, respectively. Earlier, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh have received India-made vaccine.

Asean and Latin American countries have also approached India for the vaccine. During initial days of global outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, India sent HCQ, paracetamol to 150 countries across the globe to deal with the disease.
