New Delhi: An Indian Air Force An-32 transport aircraft crashed Saturday morning at the Air Force Station in Rowriah, Jorhat, Assam, according to a statement from the Indian Air Force.

The aircraft was on approach to land when it crashed at the Jorhat airbase. Plumes of smoke rising from the wreckage were captured in images and footage that quickly spread across social media, as rescue teams moved in to respond.

No information on casualties has been made public yet. The IAF has indicated it will share further updates as the situation develops.

The An-32 is a twin-turboprop military transport that has served as a backbone of IAF logistics for decades, supporting supply and cargo missions across the country. Originally procured from the Soviet Union and manufactured at the Antonov facility in Ukraine, the aircraft was formally brought into IAF service in July 1984.

(This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.)
