Ajeya Warrior: India, UK to hold joint military drill from February 13 at Salisbury Plains

New Delhi: In an effort to take defence ties between both the nations to a new height, troops of India and United Kingdom will conduct their fifth edition of joint military exercise “Ajeya Warrior 2020” at Salisbury Plains in United Kingdom ‪from February 13-26‬.

The exercise will comprise of 120 soldiers each from Indian and United Kingdom Army who would be sharing their experiences gained during conduct of various counter insurgency and counter terrorist operations in the past, a defence official said.

“We are fully prepared for this exercise. The battalion has trained the participants of the joint exercise in aspects of Counter Terrorism operations as per the UN mandate. The participants have also been trained in combat shooting, rock craft training, Jungle survival and martial arts for unarmed combat,” 14 Battalion of The Dogra Regiment Commanding Officer Col Amit Saini said.
 
From Indian side, 14th Battalion of The Dogra Regiment will be participating in the joint drill.

Previous edition of this exercise was held at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Bikaner of Rajasthan.

The aim of this exercise is to conduct company level joint training with emphasis on counter terrorists operation in Urban and Semi Urban areas.

Training on modern weapon systems, equipment and simulator training have also been planned.

Notably, in the series of military training exercises undertaken by India with various countries, Exercise Ajeya Warrior with United Kingdom is an important exercise in terms of the security challenges faced by both the nations in the realm of changing facets of global terrorism, the official added.

The exercise is conducted alternatively in United Kingdom and India.
 
The joint military exercise displays a bilateral willingness to work jointly and share operating procedures to deal with a situation in a specified operational setting.

The exercise will promote defence cooperation and enhance interoperability while sharing experiences between both the armies.
