Lucknow: In a grand display of military prowess and cultural heritage, the Indian Army celebrated its 76th Army Day with a breathtaking event called “Shaurya Sandhya” at the Lucknow Cantonment, Monday. The event was attended by the defence minister, Rajnath Singh; the chief of defence staff, General Anil Chauhan; the chief of the Army staff, General Manoj Pande; and other civil and military officials.

The evening was marked by a series of exhilarating performances that showcased the diverse skills and unwavering spirit of the Army. Spectators were enthralled by daredevil motorcycle stunts, traditional martial arts displays, like kalaripayattu and gatka, and a captivating performance by warriors from the northeast.

The static display featured an array of cutting-edge military equipment, including Akash missiles, K9 Vajra combat vehicles, anti-drone systems, and Bofors guns, exemplifying the Army’s technological advancements.

In his address, Singh lauded the unique character of Indian soldiers, emphasizing the four core values that define them: patriotism, courage, humanity, and loyalty to the Constitution. He highlighted the unwavering commitment of Indian soldiers to protecting the nation, citing their contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions, disaster relief efforts, and the 1971 war as testaments to their patriotism and humanitarian spirit.

Singh further commended the Army’s ability to embrace tradition while simultaneously adapting to the evolving needs of modern warfare. He emphasized the government’s dedication to strengthening the armed forces, citing the prompt allocation of funds by the Union finance ministry as a symbol of this commitment. He also reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for the well-being of ex-servicemen through initiatives like the “one rank, one pension” scheme and healthcare and re-employment opportunities.

The event concluded with the launch of a first-day postal cover by the defence minister, marking a fitting end to a day that celebrated the Indian Army’s rich history, unwavering dedication, and continuous adaptation to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Beyond the grand spectacle, “Shaurya Sandhya” served as a powerful reminder of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders while upholding its cultural values. The event not only fostered a sense of national pride but also inspired the youth to consider a career in the armed forces.

Earlier in the day, the 76th Army Day Parade was held at Thakur Sheodatt Singh Parade Ground at the 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre in Lucknow. The Army chief reviewed the parade and presented gallantry awards. The chief of defence staff and other senior military personnel attended the parade.
