Leh: In a ceremony steeped in military tradition and regional pride, 194 Agniveer recruits were formally inducted into the Indian Army’s prestigious Ladakh Scouts Regiment during an impressive passing-out parade held at the its regimental centre here on Thursday.
The parade was reviewed by Major General Gurpal Singh, general officer commanding of the Rashtriya Rifles’ “Uniform Force”, who was the chief guest of the event.
The ceremony drew a distinguished gathering of military officials, civil dignitaries, and proud families who had travelled from across Ladakh’s remote regions to witness their children's momentous achievement.
The young Agniveers, representing all corners of Ladakh’s diverse landscape, demonstrated exceptional discipline and precision during the parade, marking their readiness to serve the nation with distinction. Their transformation from civilians to soldiers represents not only personal achievement but also the continuation of Ladakh’s proud military heritage.
During his address, Maj Gen Singh commended the recruits for their outstanding parade performance and called upon them to dedicate their lives to the nation’s service as proud members of the Army. He particularly praised the parents for encouraging their children to join the regiment and lauded the Ladakh Scouts for their exemplary performance across all military spheres and highlighted their exceptional valour and significant contributions to national security.
The GOC Uniform Force exhorted the young Agniveers to continue to strive for excellence in all endeavours and take a solemn pledge to defend our nation's sovereignty against all challenges.
The ceremony included a medal presentation recognising outstanding performance during training. In a touching tribute to military families, Gaurav Padaks (pride medals) were presented to parents who are currently serving or have previously served in the Army and whose children have now joined the regiment as Agniveers.
The event proved particularly emotional for families who had undertaken arduous journeys from Ladakh’s far-flung areas to witness their loved ones’ induction into one of India’s most respected regional regiments. The Ladakh Scouts, known for their specialized high-altitude warfare capabilities and intimate knowledge of the region’s challenging terrain, continue to play a crucial role in safeguarding India’s northern borders.
This latest batch of Agniveers adds to the regiment’s strength as it maintains its vigilant watch over one of the world’s most strategically important and geographically challenging frontiers.
