Indian Army, Assam Police apprehend armed Ulfa(I) militant, linkman in Dibrugarh

Guwahati: The Indian Army, in a joint operation with the Assam Police, apprehended a militant and a linkman of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) outfit, on Sunday, the Army said in a release. Army soldiers from the Dimapur-based Spear Corps (III Corps) carried out a joint operation with the Assam Police after receiving a specific intelligence input about the movement of a suspected Ulfa militant with a weapon in Phaltutola area under Dibrugarh district’s Joypur police station.

The Ulfa(I) faction is headed by Paresh Baruah, who is also known as Paresh Asom and Kamruj Zaman Khan.

The apprehended militant has been identified as Yasin Khan, 31, a resident of Jagun village near Assam’s Naharkatia town. The linkman was identified as Bintu Sharma, 33.

One 7.62mm pistol with four live rounds was also recovered from them.

During the initial questioning, both confessed to having links with the Ulfa(I) outfit. They have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
