GeNeral Dhiraj Seth at South Block
New Delhi: Marking the start of his tenure as the 31st chief of the Army staff, General Dhiraj Seth on Tuesday unveiled a comprehensive strategic vision built around ‘VIJAY’, a five-point framework that derives its name from the Sanskrit word for “victory” while also serving as an acronym for the Indian Army’s future roadmap.
Speaking at his first media address following the assumption of command, General Dhiraj Seth paid tribute to soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice in the nation’s service.
V — Vigilance — forms the first pillar. The General stressed unwavering alertness along the country’s borders and a sustained operational readiness to counter any emerging security threat without hesitation.
I — Innovation and Transformation — signals a clear push toward technological modernisation. The new Army chief called for innovation to be embedded into doctrine, systems, and capability development, while simultaneously undertaking structural transformation in step with the evolving character of modern warfare.
J — Jointness and Integration — underscored the necessity of seamless synergy with the Indian Air Force and Navy. Going beyond the conventional military framework, he advocated for military-civil fusion and a Whole-of-Nation approach in service of Viksit Bharat 2047.
A — Atmanirbharta — captured the resolve to build a self-reliant Army. Summarising this goal in a pointed phrase: “To win our wars with indigenous solutions,” the chief reaffirmed commitment to domestic defence manufacturing.
Y — Yodha First — placed the soldier at the heart of the vision. From Agniveers to senior veterans and Veer Naris, the General pledged enhanced training, higher technological thresholds, and robust welfare as non-negotiable commitments.
Drawing on the Prime Minister’s ‘JAI’ mantra for the Armed Forces, General Seth concluded with his guiding motto: “JAI se VIJAY” — signalling that the journey to victory begins with dedication, agility, and integrity.
