German national accorded Swami Brahmanand award for cow protection

New Delhi: Friederike Irina Bruening, a German national who has devoted her life to sick and abandoned cows in Mathura of Uttar Pradesh, has been accorded with Swami Brahmanand award for cow protection.

Ms Bruening who is also known as Sudevi Dasi was awarded Padam Shree this year.

“She is came to India 40 years and since last 25 years Ms Bruening has devoted her life to look after the cows. I had proposed her name for Swami Brahmanand award,” Delhi-based writer Amit Rajput said.

The award is being awarded to those who are engaged in the field of cow protection and education, the award committee of Swami Brahmanand said in a statement.

The committee has instituted the award felicitation on the occasion of 125th Birth anniversary of former member of Parliament Swami Brahmanand.

Ms Bruening has spent around 200,000 euros ($225,000) of her own money over the years on her cow shelter, which costs around $45,000 per month to run since she herself engaged into this service.
