New Delhi: Tezpur-headquartered Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps, also known as ‘IV Corps’ dedicated a 155 Base Hospital at Tezpur Military Station to all ranks and their families across the city and satellite military stations in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
Dedication of hospital is a part of the Indian Army’s sustained push to upgrade infrastructure in the Eastern Theatre.
Inaugurated by the Gajraj Corps General Officer Commanding, Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, the facility is equipped with state-of-the-art medical infrastructure and incorporating environmentally sustainable features.
“The facility represents a significant upgrade in healthcare capacity in the Northeast. As one of the largest military hospitals in the region, it substantially enhances medical support to operational formations in the Eastern Theatre,” Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh defence PRO Lieutenant Colonel Athul Sreedharan said.
Sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence in March 2021 at a cost of ₹112.82 crore, the project was executed by the Military Engineer Services under the aegis of Chief Engineer Siliguri Zone and CWE Tezpur.
Construction began in November 2021 and was completed within a compressed timeline, reflecting strong planning and execution efficiency.
The hospital expansion was conceptualized in close coordination with the Army Medical Services, whose expertise guided planning, design finalization, and validation of operational medical requirements.
“Their continued involvement has ensured a facility that aligns with modern treatment protocols and delivers patient-centric care.”
Despite challenges such as disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the region’s demanding logistical and climatic conditions, the project was delivered within the stipulated Project Delivery Completion timeline and without cost overruns -- highlighting robust project management and financial discipline.
In recognition of its strategic importance, construction quality, and sustainable design, the project has been nominated for the CIDC Vishwakarma Award 2026, positioning it among the Indian Army’s flagship infrastructure achievements.
