New Delhi: Two Bactrian camels, two Zanskari ponies and two Army dogs have been awarded the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation for their courage, endurance and obedience to command.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi honoured the animals for their exceptional contribution to operations in some of the country’s most challenging deployment areas.
“Bactrian camels Galwan and Nubra, along with Army canines Zadie and Disco, received the COAS Commendation Card for their operational roles in Ladakh, Siachen and forward areas,” an official said.
Deployed in the cold deserts of Ladakh, the Bactrian camels have played a vital role in high-altitude logistics, transporting heavy loads across steep gradients and treacherous terrain.
The Zanskari ponies — an indigenous and endangered breed — have consistently supported troops in the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier and other forward posts.
The Army dogs, trained in surveillance, tracking and specialised operational tasks, have been instrumental in protecting troops and enhancing operational effectiveness across diverse terrains.
The felicitation recognises the silent service, resilience and loyalty of these unsung warriors, who continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Indian Army personnel in the service of the nation.
