Each battalion comprises approximately 250 highly trained soldiers, specially equipped for swift, surprise, and high-impact operations in diverse combat environments.
Ahead of their Republic Day debut, the Bhairav Battalion will also participate in the Army Day parade in Jaipur, marking another significant milestone in the unit’s evolution.
Why Bhairav Battalions have been raised?
The elite battalions have been raised keeping in mind the changing nature of warfare and fast evolving geostrategic scenario.
Bhairav symbolizes the fierce form of Lord Shiva. Its emblem is the serpent, and alongside it is written: Invisible and Invincible.
All about Bhairav Battalions
The elite battalion is comprised of about 250 soldiers, drawing personnel from infantry, artillery, air defence, signals, and other combat support arms.
They are equipped with close-combat weapons like the AK-203, sniper rifles with a range of up to 1,500 meters, and rocket launchers capable of destroying heavy enemy weapons from long distances.
These battalions have been raised to deliver swift, high-impact operations, including rapid cross-border actions on short notice.
The units draw from regimental traditions, with war cries such as “Raja Ramchandra ki Jai” or “Bole So Nihaal, Sat Sri Akal”, while adopting the motto of “Abhayam Bhairav” — embodying fearless resolve.
These compact commando units fill the operational gap between standard infantry and the elite Para Special Forces, focusing on deep reconnaissance, targeted strikes and disruption at tactical depths.
Considering its capabilities, it has currently been deployed along the northern and western borders.
This year’s Republic Day celebrations will not just be ceremonial — they will stand as a strong statement of India’s military preparedness, innovation, and massive resolve against terrorism.
