Australian foreign minister Penny Wong to attend Raisina Dialogue 2023

New Delhi: Australian foreign minister Penny Wong will be arriving in India for the first time to participate in the G20 foreign affairs ministers meeting in the national capital.  

Before landing in Delhi, she will visit to Malaysia to advance her country’s bilateral relationships and promote Australia’s interests in a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Before embarking journey to Malaysia and India, Penny Wong said: “Australia strongly supports India’s G20 Presidency and welcomes India’s ambitious, action oriented G20 agenda, under the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.”

The foreign ministers across the G20 nations will arrive in India on March 1.

She along with other foreign ministers will discuss the contemporary international challenges, including strengthening the multilateral system, food and energy security, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

Besides, the Australian minister will also attend the 2023 Raisina Dialogue.

“This year is an important milestone in Australia’s bilateral relationship with India, with many high-level Ministerial visits between our two countries,” Penny Wong said.

It should be noted that the Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell and Minister for Resources Madeleine King will travel to India over the next month.

“Later this year Australia looks forward to hosting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he attends theQuad Leaders’ meeting.”

On December 29, 2022 the free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Australia, came into force, which will enhance the trade cooperation and also help in boosting bilateral trade in goods and services to cross USD 70 billion in the next five years.

India's goods exports to Australia stood at USD 8.3 billion and imports from the country aggregated to USD 16.75 billion in 2021-22.
