National Science Day celebrated at RK Puram's AMD office

New Delhi: On the occasion of National Science Day--2023 with the theme "Global Science for Global Wellbeing," a scientific seminar was organized at the R.K. Puram's office of Atomic Minerals Directorate of Research and Exploration.

On this occasion, noted experts and scientists spoke on the long term usability of different sources of nuclear energy in the country.

While delivering a keynote address, Dr. K.K. Pandey,  Regional Director ( Northern  Region), Atomic Minerals Directorate of Research and Exploration, said that nuclear energy does not warrant risks of radiation as it is eco-friendly; and a lot of safety measures  are also  put in place to prevent the emission of radioactive rays.

"In terms of cost also, the money incurred on production of nuclear energy is less than half of the money spent on producing thermal energy and hydel energy," Dr. Pandey explained in a matter-of-factly manner.

In order to inform and educate the audience comprising a sizeable chunk of students, N. K. Johri explained through " PowerPoint Presentation" the various aspects of radioactivity.

In an informative and in-depth manner, Dr. Neeru Rawal lectured  on the essential option of nuclear energy.

An educative and enlightening exhibition of nuclear energy-generating products and display of the process of fusion and fission reaction with regard to nuclear energy---for students----was organized within the premises of AMD office.

Also this  occasion was marked by a quiz programme in which students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector-8, R.K. Puram, Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyalaya, Ramjas School, Sarvodaya School participated.

Students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyalaya won the quiz contest with 110 points.

Ramjas School and Sarvodaya School stood second and third position respectively.

Earlier on February 3, 2023, Directorate of Atomic Minerals Research and Exploration organized a National Level Quiz/Essay  writing competition for both 6th-8th group of  classes and 9th-12th group of  classes of schools all over the country.

The topic of the essay was "Net Zero Emission  and Nuclear Energy."

The names of winners of quiz/essay competitions were announced and prizes were distributed among them.

Shantanu Bhadra, student of class IX B, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector-8, R.K. Puran bagged the first prize in the national level essay competition of 9th-12th group of classes.

Students of Lal Bahadur Shastri Vidyalaya got second and third prizes in the same group.  

In the 6th-8th group of classes, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector-8, R.K. Puram took away second and third prizes in both quiz and essay competition in the same group.  

A student of Ramjas School got third prize in that group.

The scientific seminar was  concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Neeru Rawal and with singing of the national anthem.
